14-Jan-07 : Adventures at Lorong Lada Hitam

Despite of rainy weather, we still bravely carried out our adventure at Lorong Lada Hitam on Sunday. In fact, the weather was quite cool and refreshing. Due to health and figure conscious reason (especially after last Saturday health check up and mummy found out that she is under exercised), we decided to go nature exercise every alternate saturday / sunday.

Even Lizzy the Princess came to join the walk.. and she came out as the cleanest dog because this lucky girl had so many people willing to carry her around.. haha.. that's how she get the name "Princess". But do not underestimate her.. she completed her walk.

Then off we go.. through the bushes and plants

Happy to see small puddle

and the deeper puddle

And at last.. swimming in cool muddy water...

Brrr... I hate water

The dogs just couldn't wait to lead the way

No doggies leaving the owner behind here though. Even Maverick in constant look out for his owners too. Jeannie included.

Despite of us bashing through the forest & bushes, still there was no need for rush and dash. This was the best part of the walk. Take a deep breath of fresh air and admiring the beautiful nature.

Beautiful Fungus

Big spider right in front of our path

And...errr... bullet cartridges??

Unknowingly we walked for more than 3 hours non-stop.

From clean and crisp white socks

To "Kopi" coloured socks

Nobody (human and dogs) came out clean (well.. except Eliz), we were BROWN. But at the end of the day, we were happy and satisfied and of course... tired. Stress free walk, sandwich to satisfy the hungry stomach, drink and beer to quench the thirst, now that is what I called a good Human-dog Adventure, Socialisation and Hangout.

Last but not least.. Our group photo =)

wow I want to go too!!!
Hey thanks for putting up a link to Black Dogs are Special. ( I haven't had time to move and update that blog yet)..:(

p.s. I wonder if you can give me some advice. I've never really let Fei off leash unless it's in an enclosed area. She is very skittish and runs away from people. She has always been like this and she fears people hitting her (we adopted her later so perhaps she was not conditioned or socialised properly). How should I start to let Fei try being off leash?

Buster - Let's get our paws dirty =)

E - I'm not an expert myself =P Luna is also still quite timid (to humans and dogs), I guess it's the mongrel thing as they always feel insecure. Is Fei attached to you? Is she following you whenever you go (especially outdoor)?

I started it with long (5m) retractable leash with Luna. Let her roam a distant away, then train her recall by calling her to come back to me & sit. After I know whenever she scared/insecured she'll come back to me, I feel more comfortable to let her offleash.

I see. Whenever we go to the dog run, she will wander off but always checks back and will come when called. But this is because she knows she is safe. She feels safe in the presence of dogs and humans but if it's a street or she can't sense any dogs around, she will be very scared of people and cars and bikes.
Maybe it's me that's not confident. Maybe I'm afraid of letting her go off leash.
I definitely think it's a mongrel thing. Other dogs would have their noses on the ground or walk looking straight ahead but Fei needs to look around every few minutes to see if she can see everything and whatever's going on.

Has Luna been through obedience school?

Jose - yeah.. join us the next time. I'll post where/when we go for the next round =)

E - I saw Fei's video in one of the link. She doesn't look timid btw =) Luna didn't attend any official obedience training. Since we brought Suria for obedience training before, we sort of learn from there and train Luna by myself. Luna is quite easy to train. Aren't mongrels smart??!! And she sort of pick-up trick from her brother too.

Yes, mongrels are very smart! Fei learned many commands (lay on your side, go home, stand) in one day.
The only thing I wish for Fei is to lose her fear of humans and for her to trust people more. I want her to enjoy the company of people.
